It makes perfect sense that flying a drone near an airport presents certain challenges. This is because there’s always the potential for a collision between a drone and an aircraft.
To reduce this risk, regulations state that flying drones in controlled airspace (CTR) near airports is only permitted when the drone operator has the proper authorization, documentation, and a radiotelephony set.
Perfect-Drone is authorized to operate in controlled airspace.
A few days before the drone flights in controlled airspace, a flight plan is submitted. This flight plan contains all the key details about the planned drone operations. Once approved by LVNL (Air Traffic Control the Netherlands), the drone operation in the CTR can commence. Throughout the operation, we maintain radio contact with the relevant control tower.
The vast majority of the Netherlands is classified as open airspace, where you can fly a drone without significant restrictions in most areas. Controlled airspace is typically only found around airports (CTRs) and at higher altitudes. In addition to CTRs, there are other zones where flying a drone presents challenges. In some locations, drone flights are completely prohibited, such as near the Royal Family’s residence or over the Borssele Nuclear Power Plant.
To determine if your project is located in special airspace, you can check our drone map. This interactive map is specifically designed for drones. If you have any doubts or questions, feel free to contact us!
